What is Google Authorship?
Google authorship is an essential tool for anyone using a blog to drive their dive business. It is something that helps you stick our in search results, certainly a very important proposition.
As you can see in the above screen shot of a search result, my blog post appears with my image (taken from your Google+ profile) and a by.. tag line. Why is this important? Well for one it makes your post stand out from the search results crowd, and this is certainly going to bring you more clicks. In fact one independent study found that it leads to a 150% increase in clicks. So if you use a blog as a business tool it strikes me as clearly negligent not to set up Google Authorship!
How do I set up Google Authorship?
1.First of all you need to have a Google+ Profile https://plus.google.com/ with a good profile picture. Then you need to verify your email address on Google+
2.Now go to your about tab and then click on edit links, scroll down to a section entitled Contributor to. Here you need to add the blog(s) you write for. It should look like this:
3. For those not using WordPress or wish to add website pages also, then you need to insert this code on every article/post:
Replacing [Profile_url] with your Google+ profiles URL
4. For those using WordPress then its really simple, just head to the plugins page and download one of the available Google Authorship Plugins and follow the instructions.
5.Test to see if it has worked. Google provides a handy testing tool http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets just pop your article URL in and click preview
